Aya Yorgi

The Babylon brand is well regarded within Turkey, and rightly so! It opened its first set of doors in 1999 as a live music venue in Istanbul. It is still the top music venue, hosting international names from jazz, pop, reggae, world music, and electronica, as well as local bands on the weekdays. The Istanbul venue is in a converted warehouse and the crowd is loyal and friendly. As Istanbul starts to get humid, the hip crowd heads for the coast to enjoy the sun, beaches and costal breezes, and Babylon Aya Yorgi opens its exclusive beach club in the town of ร‡eลŸme, near ฤฐzmir, to cater for the summer party scene.

ร‡eลŸme is a popular holiday destination for Turkish and international tourists alike, offeringย up beautiful coastline and excellent surfing waters. Built in 1508, a castle stands in the very centre of ร‡eลŸme and currently serves as an archaeology museum atย whichย artefactsย from the surrounding areasย are displayed. Aya Yorgi beach is one of Turkeyโ€™s most famous and the bay has several beach clubs offering entertainment all day, and indeed all night, long. As the bay is protected from the wind and waves, itโ€™s a great location for luxury yacht owners to drop anchor and disembark for a party.Babylon ร‡eลŸmeโ€™s beach club is located on this beautiful cove overlooking this sheltered area of the turquoise Aegean sea. The club is a huge lawn with liberally dotted palm trees and sun loungers. Pontoons jut out into the sea allowing easy access to dive into the ocean or lower yourself via the steps. The pebble beach runs the entire length of the club and bean bags are distributed in certain areas. Music is piped throughout the club and a chilled daytime vibe is effortlessly created.

The wooden decked restaurant is spacious, with dappled sunlight playing through the wicker umbrella ceiling. The pale wood and white chairs are fresh and neat. To keep up our energy levels for sea swimming, bat and balls games, possible paddle boarding, and table tennis, we both invested in hearty pasta. Tall, Dark and Handsome had the trusted penne arrabiata and I had a seafood linguine. Really fresh and perfectly cooked, it was a lovely mix of sun-dried tomatoes, prawns, basil, mussels, and squid. It was buttery and tasty and a very good quick snack. Pink Martini played over the speakers as we dined and we enjoyed a mojito and a strawberry milkshake as we people watched.

In the late afternoon theย  DJ sets up by the sea-side bar. Babylon ร‡eลŸme turns into a club during the evening and as the sun dips the party starts!
