Dylan Dublin

by Emily Healey-Lynham

In The Bespoke Black Books Dublin trip we were lucky enough to stay at the gorgeous boutique hotel The Dylan for two nights. The Dylan delivers on every level, it’s beautiful to look at, a grand and elegant building on a little side street just 20 minutes away from the City Centre.

When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the lovely receptionist Madison. She was very sweet and accommodating and very quickly and smoothly checked us in. All of the staff are friendly, attentive, and very helpful, directing us to the places we wanted to go and Madison assisted us with a map of the City which was very useful and nothing was too much trouble.

We got to the room via the lobby lift and were greeted to a well sized room and there was a plate of macaroons and chocolate truffles waiting for us!  The cleanliness was excellent, I liked the slightly quirky interior decorating. The bed was very comfortable, and when we asked for anything, it was sent to our room within minutes.  The interior and feel is everything a boutique hotel should be, the iDock in the room was a lovely touch and it was great to listen to while we prepared for dinner!  The bathroom had gorgeous products and the towels and slippers were comfy and soft.  Our room was towards the back of the hotel and had a view of a residential area which was a nice building and the seats by the window were comfortable and pleasant to sit watching the world go by.One downfall is there is no gym in the hotel, but they do offer to take you to a private gym next door that has a few treadmills (free of charge) and you can always pop outside for a run and not all rooms come with a bath, so ask when booking if you prefer a bath.  The location is good, just outside the main hustle of the city, because the weather was nice we chose to walk into the city most days. Saying that the hotel is a very short distance from bus stops and train stations. There are also nearby restaurants and pubs if you wish to partake in somewhere else for the night, but in the hotel there is a lovely restaurant too.  We had lots of choice and the restaurant offers al carte and set menus.

Our meal at the hotel restaurant was fabulous. The presentation was of excellent quality and the flavours were classic combinations with excellent produce. The wine list was also excellent, and the ambience in the evening has an almost Alice-in-wonderland feel, with textured walls and comfy seating a fabulous place to dine, so swish and nouveau.  The restaurant and kitchen team take pride in what they do and were very knowledgeable about the wines, cocktails and food ingredients.
Breakfast was held in the restaurant and was a great plentiful continental buffet supplemented by a very good selection of hot dishes for a very minor incremental charge. There’s even sparkling wine on the buffet!  Room service was also sublime and the portions were huge!  There is also a lovely patio area outside the front where you can sit and drink one of the amazing wines or cocktails and as the hotel is off the main road you do not get bothered by the noise and bustle of the City!

Overall a good stay, and if I were to return to Dublin (which I know I will), I would book this hotel again, every room is different than the next one and it is a great little hotel in a neighbourhood that is quiet and pristine.  We would like to personally thank all the staff and management for their efforts to make us feel like valued guests and we hope to visit again soon.
