A guide for mums Part 3: Supplements

by Yemi Edwards

We have been talking about pampering ourselves via experiences, foods, and products. But another branch of pampering can also be from within using supplements thus pampering your body from the inside out. In this article you will learn about an alternative approach to health and wellbeing.

Pukka

Pukka are known mostly for their organic teas and coffees. Their culture was founded on the Ayurvedic system, which is an Indian holistic medicinal system. These methods are used to find a balance between the body and mind. One of the ways of Ayurvedic medicine is practiced is by using plants to heal. Alongside their drinks, you can find Ayurveda holistic alternative supplements. Pukka Wholistic Ashwagandha contains the special ingredient that rejuvenates the body and mind.

Ashwagandha is a herb used in this type of medicinal practice. Found in India, Middle East and Africa this comes from the root of an evergreen shrub. It is also known as Indian Ginseng and Indian Winter Cherry. But what does Ashwagandha do? Well, this root boosts brain function. Traditionally it was used to help boost memory and research has shown it helps protect nerve cells. You can do your body good by reducing your stress and anxiety, just imaging your body at a spa and you are relaxed. This is working from within your mind to help your body.  These Pukka pills can also help reduce fasting blood sugar levels. The organic Ashwagandha is also, vegan, soya free, suitable for vegetarians and dairy free.  It also contains iodine that contributes to cognitive function and normal functioning of the nervous system.

Elēnzia

Elēnzia ENHANCE is another supplement for cognitive function. This supplement contains a B complex, Wild Blueberry, French Grape and Polyphenol Extract. These daily pills work for mental and physical health wellbeing. Suitable for most food diets including gluten free and vegan and is caffeine and sugar free. The blueberry and grape help increase memory and learning. The remaining ingredients help with the mood and keeping the brain healthy. So a great adage to the above supplements.

Please remember that these are alternative methods and should always be discussed with your General Practitioner or Consultant before using. This is just information about this method of holistic therapy which might benefit you and help aid mental wellbeing. Always remember to read the label and check that it is compatible with your medical history before taking any form of alternative supplements.

Link Nutrition

Link Nutrition also make Ashwagandha capsules. Their products are food based, which means they are readily absorbed by the body because it recognises its structure. Link Nutrition take pride in their supplements by providing premium ingredients that undergo under extensive testing.  Unlike Pukka, the Link Nutrition version is made with a higher potency of Ashwagandha and it doesn’t contain a lot of extras. It also has no binders. So the company has gone all out to try to make this food supplement as pure as they can. This is includes the pills not having any gluten, soya and preservatives.  There is another benefit of using Ashwagandha in your diet that was not mentioned above. The root also helps lower cortisol levels. Cortisol is released during your “fight or flight” moments. These  heart racing times can leave you feeling exhausted and also off balance. Finally for the men Ashwagandha can boost testosterone and increase fertility making this root something for everyone.

Another supplement from Link Nutrition is Curcumin. Tumeric has been used in traditional remedies for a long time. The Curcumin is what gives turmeric yellow in colour. Grown in South East Asia this chemical within the plant helps with inflammation, it also has antioxidant properties. This supplement has been looked at as a delay or reversal of things like Alzheimer’s, depression and even diabetes.  The Link Nutritions tablets are high potency but absorbable. Turmeric is hard to break down on its own thus addition of the black paper helps to break down the tumeric in the gut and liver. The root is only used in this product. Just reading the benefits of this jar makes me feel healthier.
