Eccleston Square Hotel

by The Lord and Lady

Situated in the Wicked location of central London, Eccleston Square Hotel is a boutique hotel just minutes from Victoria Station and yards from Churchill’s old house.  During a recent trip to see the musical Wicked we were privileged to stay at Eccleston Square Hotel for one night and we were not disappointed.

As soon as you get to the hotel you are greeted by a beautiful Georgian townhouse with a grand entrance and a big front door framed with regal white pillars. Inside a bright chandelier in the lobby lights up the room and the most helpful staff you can imagine help greet you on arrival. Check in was quick and smooth and we were escorted to our room by the delightful Victor who showed us the amenities of the room and how to use the swanky touch panel system, which allows you to close the curtains, change lighting and more!

We were on the second floor in a Queen room with amazing amount of storage, bathrobes, slippers, a good size bathroom, Nespresso coffee facilities, TV and a comfortable bed by Swedish company Hästens. The décor is reminiscent of a forest of silver birch trees with silver pillows and throw on the bed, a large window brings light into the room. The Italian marble bathroom had toiletries by L’Occitane, a plethora of towels, four different shower heads to choose from (two in the ceiling, one on the wall and another detectable), TV embedded into the mirror and the ability to obscure the glass in the bathroom door by the touch of a panel with auto misting glass.

The room is very high-tech with a tablet used to order room service or speak to reception and a TV that allows you to book a taxi and explore the local area via Google Maps; this was very useful to plot a route to the theatre. There is a great selection of plug sockets all around the room and if you need any chargers or adaptors the hotel is able to help. The panel system used to control the curtains, lighting and air con is easy to use and if you want a quick lesson the TV will show you! You can use the tablet to order items but you can also pick up the phone to speak to reception where nothing is a problem and services requested are provided quickly and efficiently.

The bed by Hästens was a dream! With a vast leather headboard, pintuck quilt and plumped up satin pillows. You can manoeuvre the bed to adjust the height of your head or legs and enjoy a quick massage. We definitely had a great night’s sleep and it felt soft and supportive to drift away in.

The Minotti Lounge near reception is the place to sit for food and drink and there is a wonderful complimentary tea service served till 6pm with an array of teas to try, plus the lounge is comfortable to sit in with a great view of the square. The grey and black theme continues with the décor in the Minotti Lounge with splashes of yellow and another stunning chandelier; in fact, the lighting was atmospheric and helped with the ambience. The Minotti Lounge is also used for breakfast and we enjoyed the Inclusive Breakfast on our day of departure. You can use the area for meetings and there’s a 103-inch screen in the lounge as well!

One of the additional add-ons to the Eccleston Square Hotel is the park across the road which you can ask reception for a key and visit the private garden opposite for a picnic in the park or just to soak up the sun if it is a beautiful day, this is a little oasis away from it all in the centre of London. Around the area within walking distance is Victoria Station, Sloane Square and Chelsea, where you will find plenty of restaurants and sites to see.

The staff are all very helpful from Victor who checked us in to Magdalena who served us tea in the afternoon and provided breakfast. Antonio on the night cover was extremely pleasant to chat to and offered us tea on our return from the theatre. Stephanie helped with check out and ordered us a taxi which was most welcome. The staff help make the stay and are a plus to your visit, it was always nice to see a smiling face as we walked about.
