W Dubai Al Habtoor City

I felt like a fembot in an Austin Powers movie as I strolled casually into my suite at the W Hotel, Al Habtoor City. With a chic, modern space age vibe, white furniture in the lounge area, white washed walls, a stylish martini bar, a gigantic white circular bed, two flat screen TV’s showcasing beautiful people sipping cocktails, two bathrooms, a stand-alone white oval bathtub next to a long pink light up piece of art, a walk-in rainfall shower, floor to ceiling glass windows looking out onto the cityscape and an elongated “catwalk” style mirror feature where one can “Vogue”. No, this wasn’t the set of Madonna’s throwback music video; this was the interstellar penthouse hotel room “The Fantastic Suite” of my orbital dreams.

When I entered the hotel, I was already impressed. True branding shines in the packaging and this place is wrapped up like the best early Christmas present ever. The suites at the W Hotel, Al Habtoor are extravagant by name and extravagant by nature. All of them named by the most extreme superlative, the Marvellous Room, the Spectacular Suite and the one we stayed in, the Fabulous Suite. I didn’t realise a hotel room could be such an ingratiating sycophant. However, I was soon to find out that I would not be disappointed.

I was given a tour of my room by the W Insider Dubai who not only proudly shows off this sexy beast of an apartment but also knows the ins and outs of every cool thing going on in Dubai. I was not just flattered he took the time to explain the intricate details of my room’s martini bar but flabbergasted by the room’s coolness itself. I did prance along the catwalk mirror in none other than My Calvin’s and, yes, I did manage to refrain from saying “yeah baby, yeah”.

The suite was filled with goodies, Gummy Bears which I more than happily indulged in and Bliss beauty products were a nice English touch with facial wash and bubbly shower and bath gel which smells refreshingly of lemon. If that wasn’t enough, the room service dining menu selection is great and the service even better.

The interior building itself screams of an early 2000 MTV music video. Turquoise and navy bright lights glittering against the emblematic W. With an entrance George Michael would have danced in and the buzzy feeling that records are made here (they aren’t), the W Al Habtoor City has just got the wow factor in spades. The “it” that makes everyone feel like a superstar or a dance queen. The “it” that makes one feel like Olivier Rousteng (name) from Balmain must be in the bar having a discussion with Kanye West about their next upcoming Yeezy Collab. Yes, this place is the shit. With all the sparkles and glitter to go along with it.

Supper time and we were booked into the W’s resident fusion Asian restaurant, Nomu which served us deliciously fresh prawn tempura, Guro Endamme, Wagyu beef, Bao buns and Korean fried chicken, the food was sublime, and our waitress Aries tended to us with the perfect balance of friendliness, efficiency and attentiveness and never over baring.   We were more than satisfied and more than pleasantly filled up.

W Hotel, Al Habtoor City also offers the absolute Don of concierge services, aptly named ‘Whatever, Whenever’ if you hadn’t already been made to feel important and celebrity enough, a special button on your phone is there waiting to be pressed and your every whimsical requirement will be swiftly brought up to your room.

W Hotel truly endeavours to make you feel like you are number one. The supremely friendly staff and the services they offer are the obvious examples. The unique décor of each room however, really grabs you and enhances the true escapism – what more could you want from a holiday?

Strolling out of the hotel I felt a complete boss and ready to face the super experience of UAE Love Boats. A speedy speedboat tour whizzing around the Palm Jumeriah to drink up the stunning the views of Dubai’s skyline from the midst of the Persian Gulf. Hopping over the choppy waves the feeling that I was starring in a certain boat themed, Lonely Island music video was hard to shake off. Dubai really does make you feel like a rock star whether you are staying in the plush surroundings of the downtown’s W Hotel or viewing it from afar on a nifty little vessel. I heartily recommend this nautical roller coaster of a ride. You will not forget or regret it.
