Powerful and Practical: 5 Plus Size Activewear

activewear

After having grown out of my petit twenties and thirties and found myself in the voluptuous forties I have struggled to find activewear to fit my body, all the while being comfortable and functional but trying to look chic. It needs to hold in where needed but also make me look good. I have had the absolute pleasure of trying out some amazing items and literally can’t wait to share them with you. Here I will tell you about items for the gym, the beach and poolside.

WellFit Active

Starting off with a nice workout, I have found it hard if not impossible to find a sports top that covers the bum and leggings that I don’t have to pull up after every squat. I like them to hold me in a bit, no need to sugarcoat anything, I have boobs and belly fat and when you are moving around it moves too. So when I have a garment that holds it all in place I can then focus on the activity at hand.

WellFit Active has a gorgeous activewear set that they sent to me in the shape of their Cuffed Sleeve Compression Top and their Compression leggings. The fabric is made out of recycled ocean plastic, is non see-through, protects against UV and can also be used when swimming. Super soft and stretchy but still maintains compression.

The Cuffed Sleeve top has a hidden cinch panel underneath giving you that extra layer of comfort, you can jump and stretch without worrying about flashing anyone, it happens. It also features moisture-wicking panels on the back and under the arms allowing your body to get some air if you know what I mean.

The Compression leggings have two pockets to hold your phone and locker key, but the great thing about them besides the comfort is that they also help reduce inflammation, support your lymphatic system and improve your blood flow. Plus a tight wide waistband that holds them firmly in place without it feeling uncomfortable. Well Fit Activewear is size inclusive allowing women of all sizes to benefit from their unique designs.

We Are Tala Activewear

Keeping one foot in the activewear pond all the while moving slightly towards the beach I have received two pieces from We Are Tala. For my yoga days, I wore their Sculpt Seamless Wrap Sports bra featuring a cross-over v-neck and a crossover back, and with my DD boobs, this is best worn during low impact for me. The cut is lovely and it is made from a stretchy comfortable fabric, so perfect for any kind of yoga move. It’s also not as restrictive as some sports bras can be, especially in the larger sizes.

We Are Tala also sent me their Antibes Multiway Bandeau Bikini top and I’d say your imagination is the limit to how you can use it. It can be worn in so many different ways. I have tried some out and being a bigger busted gal I think I’ll stay with the classic or twist front bandeau style, the girls tried to escape when wearing it in some more playful ways.

The fabric is amazing; thick and feels of such high quality. I can tell it will last through many swims. If you look at their website you will find perfect pieces to mix and match with, something for every kind of body.

Sloggi Multiway Swimwear

Whether you prefer the beach or the pool Sloggi has a super fun bikini selection for you, I tried their Shore Fornillo line which allows you to basically have two items in one, you can turn the bikini tops and bottoms inside out to allow you to have either a plain colour or a gradient look.

I have the pink set and a blue bandeau with straps style top, the nice thing about the blue one is that on the gradient side, it moves towards purple which works with pink (see what I did there). Basically have a perfect three-piece set depending on mood.

The pink bikini top has a genius multiway strap design allowing you to either wear it as a halter or as normal shoulder straps. When you have slightly larger boobs they become heavy and a halter neck bikini is not the most comfortable so I am super pleased I can alter this preference. The colours of these items are also so lovely and will look amazing with your tan that you will have achieved gradually wearing your SPF of course.

Wuka Period Swimwear

I didn’t know that there was period swimwear, and having talked to my girlfriends neither did they. But I am here to tell you there is and it is quite something. No longer do you need to worry about your period on holidays or at the pool. Wuka has made sure their swimwear allows you a worry-free comfortable swim.

I was personally worried it would feel bulky or look bulky but my swimwear looks just like any other. And the fabric is so soft and smooth. Now Wuka works because of the three unique layers, the first is a water-repellant outer which prevents water from entering the gusset, then a highly absorbent and moisture-wicking second layer and lastly a top layer soft so that it stays kind you the skin.

I was lucky enough to receive the Scoop Back Period swimsuit and the Swim High-waisted bottoms. Wuka has a great size range and support for any kind of flow. I am still so impressed and cannot wait to bring them with me to my next holiday.

Jewelled Buddha Beach Kaftan

After swimming or when you need to go to the bar to top up that Cosmopolitan with a twist the best thing to put on in my opinion is a kaftan, I always feel like the leading lady of my own story wearing one. Add some oversized sunglasses and you will look absolutely marvellous not matter what size you are.

Jewelled Buddha sent me a kaftan from their Samundar collection featuring colourful handblock-printed Nautical prints. Very light cotton fabric without being see-through, so very easy to wear. And the print truly gets you into the beach holiday spirit, you can truly tell that this is an artisan-crafted item. It folds easily and takes almost no space at all in your suitcase.

Every purchase will also support the removal of plastic in our precious oceans, nothing feels better than helping out where we can. I find myself wearing it around my studio as well because it’s so comfortable and the print really makes me happy.

So despite summer leaving us here in the UK, how lucky are we all to be able to travel? I myself am hoping for a last-minute holiday and will be bringing all my amazing activewear whether I am waking up early to start my day with a training session or strutting down the beach in style, period or no period, I’m ready.
