On a road trip from Vancouver, Katarina stops off at CheckMate Estate and Cedar Creek Estate Winery to indulge in some of Canada’s first 100 point wines.

CheckMate Artisanal Winery, bespeaks a bounty of some of the most exceptional expressions of Chardonnay and Merlot in the world.
.
Their wines are now being distributed at ultra-luxury fine wine wholesaler Hedonism Wines in Mayfair, London, as well as premium on-trade venues like Annabel’s.
.
Then on to restaurant Home Block, part of the Cedar Creek Estate Winery, which pays homage to the beautiful Home Block Vineyard that surrounds it.
.
A mere 4-something hours drive from Vancouver through some surreally beautiful scenery, it makes for a very doable weekend visit both for local British Columbians trapped in quarantine and visitors from afar looking for a refined adventure.

@wordsbydarling was lucky enough to see a performance of Spillage!, part of Brighton’s Fringe Festival, England’s largest Arts Festival.

Written and performed by UK Anti-Slam winner, Stewart Taylor and directed by Anna Carr, ‘Spillage!’ is a hugely enjoyable one man show about anxiety, peer pressure and mental health.

Sara said: “Using spoken word, clowning and puppetry, Taylor’s energy and charisma were mesmerising in the intimate venue.”

Novikov Italian Restaurant has an imposing wood-fired oven, suede wall panelling, mirrors in solid oak frames and great food.

Many ingredients are locally sourced from the UK and there are some exciting souped-up versions of classics. For example, the Bolognese is made with Wagyu beef sourced from Yorkshire. An endless variety of traditional dishes and Italian favourites make it very hard to choose which dishes to have.

.

Our writer Katie was struck by the sheer size of the restaurant and its authenticity, however she states: “You’ve not come to Novikov for Italian feasting in an understated setting. You’re here to eat very well, splash out and to see and be seen.”

One of life’s little luxuries…
