Teeth Whitening at Home

by Lis-Marie Liden

Let’s start this off with a minor backstory from my life. I was born with a significant overbite, I mean BIG, and after many years of wearing braces I finally had a jaw surgery. It was a big deal and it brought consequences years on but I don’t regret it. After all that I was kind of over dental work and I guess I just stuck to general oral care. But then adult life came into play with coffee and wine was being had whenever I wanted, that’s what grown ups can do after all. But it’s well known it has a habit of staining teeth, so I started dabbling with the idea of whitening my teeth, and that’s great but the world of teeth whitening is vast! I have also heard stories of sensitivity from treatments and whatever higher power there is out there knows I really do not need any more issues with my teeth. So I received a few different concepts of teeth whitening from different brands, and I am going to tell you all about it so you can whiten your teeth at home.

The first is Smile Science Harley Street Professional Teeth Whitening Kit, which is a product I have seen on social media and has caught my interest before. It is a Multi Award winning product developed by world renowned Dentist Dr Martin Giniger.

There are a few components to keep in mind and some steps to follow, but it’s super fun and LED activated. You are meant to use this once a day, and well during this lockdown I have all the time in the world to do this!

You start with a Pre-stain Remover that you swab across your teeth, after that you have 2 x Peroxide free Whitening Agent syringes in the pack, for this you only need a small bit for upper and lower teeth. This you squeeze out on to mouth tray that kinda looks like a bite guard, it’s very soft and easy to use. I found myself biting down quite hard, probably very dependent on what I was watching on Netflix at the time, stay away from scary movies! You then press the button on the Plasma LED Light and keep it in for 15-20 minutes. It felt a little warm but not uncomfortable. I put a timer on my phone as it doesn’t turn off automatically.

OK, so because this was my first time ever using teeth whitening products, and I might’ve been imagining things, but I almost swear they looked brighter with just a couple of uses. In the package you have a card that helps you compare how many shades brighter you are getting, and I would say the sky’s the limit and to use until you have reached your preferred shade. I liked this product as it’s fun and easy to use.

I also received some products from Moon, which was founded by Shaun Neff who has reimagined traditional oral care and created not only a new oral care experience but also a chic product that looks gorgeous on the shelf.

The first one is a Teeth Whitening Pen which is co-produced by non other than Kendall Jenner. You twist the top and solution comes out on the brush, and then you just brush this over your teeth. I saw brighter teeth straight away which really blew me away. Easy to use and it has a fresh taste. You brush it on and wait for 30 seconds and then no food or drink for 30 minutes and it’s done. You apply morning and night and if you keep up the routine you’ll see blinding white teeth.

I also received Moon Clean Slide Floss. OK so I am not a fan off flossing, I know every single dentist out there just tutted at that just now, but it all has to do with my dental trauma. Anyway I am on a mission and in order to review I had to dive in there. When opening the floss package I see a dark grey string, this was quite interesting, it is minty and fresh and very easy to get a nice grip of. The colour comes from the charcoal ingredient, which we have seen picking up popularity in the dental market. It slides very easily between your teeth to my great relief. It doesn’t shred or flake which is very very important. It is worth mentioning that Moon products are PETA certified, Vegan and Cruelty free. They also support a great charity called Operation Smile which is a non profit organisation giving free surgeries and medical treatments to children born with cleft lips and cleft palates.

Toothpaste to me has never been a world I ventured far into, I look for whitening and aid for sensitive teeth, but other than that I do not really look further. I have now been taught, thanks to Curaprox, that one can indeed express oneself through toothpaste. Curaprox with their Toothpastes made oral care fun.

More than ever I look for natural products, I think it’s important and much better for me and you to be mindful about what we put on and in our bodies. from Curaprox provides a natural gentle whitening, has long lasting but not overpowering freshness and helps against issues such as decay and sensitivity.

I received three very unique styles of toothpaste and the flavours are amazingly fun! The first one is helping me bring out the Explorer in me through the flavours of Fresh Apple, notes of Juicy Aloe, a pinch of Peppermint and Menthol. The second one helped me Daydream by treating me to a Dreamy Blackberry and Liquorice mix with a final touch of Menthol. However, the best one must be the Gin and Tonic Challenger flavour; I’m a fan of the drink so this was going to be interesting. It has a mix of Persimmon and Juniper with the latter very much Gin and Tonic territory. It might sound strange but it doesn’t start out tasting like Gin and Tonic but that’s where we end up. You almost forget you’re actually brushing your teeth in this journey of tastes. If you are thinking of treating yourself to your very own adventurous Curaprox product you have a choice of buying tooth paste only or a gorgeous set of paste and match soft bristle toothbrush.

So I think that after using all these products my oral hygiene has never been this good and my dentist would surely give me an extra sticker for job well done. But also I think that these amazing products working together will most definitely give me that envious blinding smile I’ve been looking for; you might want to put your sunglasses on next time you see me!
